Weather & Packing Guide

Island Park sits at 6,300 feet — mountain weather is different from what you're used to. Here's exactly what to expect and pack for every season.

Key Weather Facts

Elevation: 6,300 ft — thinner air, stronger sun

Snowfall: 150+ inches annually

Temperature swings: 30-40°F between day and night

Thunderstorms: Common afternoons in July-August

Frost: Possible any month of the year

☀️ Summer (June–August)

Highs 70-85°F / Lows 30-45°F

Warm sunny days, cool nights. Afternoon thunderstorms are common (usually brief). July and August are the driest months. Wildfire smoke can affect air quality in late summer.

  • • Sunscreen SPF 30+ and hat
  • • Sturdy hiking shoes/boots

  • • Swimsuit (hot tub, rivers, Firehole swim area)

🍂 Fall (September–October)

Highs 50-65°F / Lows 15-30°F
